Get Involved with the HRG&SP — Orchestra
For most shows in the G&S repertoire, the orchestra on any given night consists of:
|
6 Violins |
2 Flutes (picc. second) |
1 or 2 Horns |
Prospective orchestra members are asked to go through an easy audition process. The show orchestra then rehearses weekly for a couple of months leading up to the run. The HRG&SP orchestra also has an active social calendar, with orchestra-only social events augmenting the already full show social schedule! For information about auditioning, email the president.
(Some HRG&SP orchestra trivia: we have had — and continue to have! — some impressive members. Yo-Yo Ma '76 played principal cello in Iolanthe '75, a show whose roster also boasted principal oboe Christopher Wilkins '78, Music Director of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and assistant conductor Lynn Chang '75, music faculty at New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, BU, and MIT.)
